Handa's Surprise

We've been reading Handa's Surprise quite a lot recently.  Here is the "interactive table" that we set up to go along with the story.

I love Schleich  mini stuff.  We had some of these already, but we are missing the bird and the goat and I'm pretending that it doesn't bother me that we don't have a complete set to go with Handa's Surprise.
The only fruit that we are missing is the guava!

Passion Fruit

The animals are paired with the fruit that they ate.

And the Tangerines fell into the basket!

Of course we had a tasting session like Akeyo and Handa in the story.

Lots of learning and playing to be done here.  This could be extended for the older children by discussing how the environment in the story is different to our own.  Comparing houses and the nature to our own, comparing weather to our own and discussing about how certain fruits grow better in different countries and why.
I would quite like to experiment with making mini houses from clay and sticks to add to our small world table.
Handa's got another book out as well; called Handa's Hen!
